Is Boredom Taking Over at Work?

Written on January 14, 2008 – 3:07 pm | by Coryan |

According to Dr. Mel Miller, director of an Australian organizational psychology consulting firm, boredom in the workplace is growing. The problem, it seems, is that work is becoming repetitious, meetings are too long, and workers’ attitudes and health are getting worse. It is a big problem, I have loads of friends who hate their jobs because they are boring.

For me, level of boredom mostly depends on the co-workers’ relationship and at the moment it’s great.

Have you ever heard of Linda Duxbury? She’s an expert on workplace demographics, and she describes baby boomers as ‘retired on the job”. I think she has a good point — when work gets boring, you just tune it out and put in your time. I’d hate to think that’s what’s left for my 40s 50s and 60s in the work world!

Carla, thanks for visiting…and thanks for the information about Dr. Duxbury. I did a bit of reading about her and her work. It is very interesting.
